The new online craze – Pokemon Go – is causing trouble not only for homeowners but property owners in general.
A CNN article by Clara Lundh detailed how one man’s home was marked as a Pokemon gym, a place where people can train their creatures. The homeowner noticed a steady stream of cars blocking his driveway, and people hanging out in his yard, all waving their smart-phones.
In a more disturbing report, Pokemon Go players were seen playing at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Arlington National Cemetery, both in Washington, D.C.
“Playing Pokemon Go in a memorial dedicated to the victims of Nazism is extremely inappropriate,” said Andy Hollinger, director of communications at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., in a statement sent to CNNMoney. “We are attempting to have the Museum removed from the game,” the statement said.
Technology is a wonderful thing but one must always be mindful of other people’s rights and mindful of the setting. Not all places are public or meant for fun and games. And always remember that “I gotta catch them all” is not a legal defense against trespassing.
